TAXI to the San Martino Fair, in Mendrisio

The San Martino Fair (or Saint Martin Festival) in Mendrisio is a highly anticipated event that takes place every year throughout several days, including St. Martin's Day, November 11th.

Various fairs and festivals usually take place on November 9th, November 10th, November 11th (St. Martin's Day), and November 12th.

The event is held in the meadows of San Martino, near the Mendrisio motorway junction. The fair is organized by the City of Mendrisio in collaboration with various partners. Entry to the public is free.

The San Martino Fair has ancient origins. As Mario Medici reminds us in his "History of Mendrisio", we need to go back to the year 1684 to trace the authorization issued to the village of Mendrisio by the Swiss Superiority for the holding of the first fair in the meadows of San Martino. Characteristic is the scent of small fish, chestnuts, mushrooms, cheeses, cured meats and sweets combined with the chromatic variation of the artisanal products beautifully displayed on the stalls.

The music and the songs sung in the refreshment areas mingle with the voices of the crowded plain. Local associations promote simple gastronomic delicacies combined with the region's much appreciated wines to satisfy even the most demanding of palates. On the terraces behind the church,visitors go up the mountain  to browse the display of agricultural tools and machinery, to contemplate from above other people's expressions of pleasure and joy, or to take a short break from the fast pace of daily life. San Martino continues to be a feast for the senses, for all tastes, in harmony with the driving values of the philosophy of good living adopted by the city of Mendrisio.

These festivities are an unmissable autumn appointment in the Momo calendar that has lasted for centuries.
